Homeowner & Landlord tax credit for energy efficient houses and apartments

Sunday, January 21, 2007. At the Metro Home Show in Toronto, Natural Resources Minister, Gary Lunn, unveiled the Canadian Government's plan to invest approximately $300 million over four years to promote efficient enery use in homes and apartments. Landlords and homeowners are being promised up to $5000 to make their homes more energy efficient.

This is part of the ecoENERGY Renewable Initiative, Prime Minister Stephen Harper unveiled on Friday January 19th. The ecoENERGY Renewable Initiative is expected to add enough clean electricity to the grid to power one million homes. The two components of the initiative are; ecoENERGY for Renewable Power and ecoENERGY for Renewable Heat. Homeowners and landlords should take advantage of:

  • The $220-million ecoENERGY Retrofit program that offers homeowners the support and information they need to retrofit their apartments and homes.
  • The $60-million ecoENERGY for Buildings and Houses that will encourage the construction and retrofit of more energy-efficient buildings and houses.
