Public Transit Tax Credit
On July 1, 2006, the Government of Canada began offering individuals a non-refundable tax credit to cover the cost of public transit passes.
The tax credit can be claimed against the full cost of buying a monthly (or longer) pass for commuting on buses, streetcars, subways, commuter trains and local ferries.
You will need to keep your expired monthly transit passes to claim the tax credit.
The credit can be claimed for the full amount of any combination of transit passes. It can also be claimed for other family members (spouses, children under 19).
